What is SNORING? Snoring is a common condition. Almost everyone snores occasionally, but studies show that about one-quarter of us snore regularly. Usually snoring occurs while sleeping when the lower jaw (mandible) relaxesand then moves back restricting the airway and allowing the tongue to fall back onto the soft tissue at the back of the throat. Snoring is the sound of soft tissues (the soft palate and uvula) vibrating when air passes by them. The air pass by these tissues because the person is breathing with their mouth opened while sleeping. This usually occurs because they can't breathe through their nose. Ultimate Nasal Dilator is designed to open the nasal airways so you can breathe through your nose. Causes of APNEA Sleep APNEA occues when the nasal passages collapse and the tongue blocks the air passages temporarily preventing a person from being able to breath. When they can't breathe through their nose or their mouth, they stop breathing, and wake up, often without knowing it. This can occur sometimes hundreds of times during the night. Snoring and apnea affect large percentages of the population. Snoring can be very stressful to relationships, and the peace of the home. In some cases the snoring is so loud it disrupts the entire household. Both snoring and apnea often leave a person tired and can have other side affects such as:
- weight gain
- irritabilty
- fatigue
- morning headaches
- attention deficit
- poor memory
- increased sick time
- poor job performance
- decreased interest in sex
- hypertension
- heart disease
- accidents on the job site
- accidents while driving
If the person were breathing through their nose, there would be no air passing these tissues and therefore, no snoring. Try making a snoring noise with your mouth open and then with it closed and you will see what we are talking about. Many snoring remedies such as sprays don't address the real problem associated with snoring and breathing. They just mask the problem by coating the throat with oil so the vibrations don't make noise for a while. Removal of the uvula is often recommended, but it is painful and often doesn't accomplish its mission. None of these remedies help the real problem, which is the lack of ability to breathe through the nose.
